INTERNAL GRINDING

Internal grinding is a machining process with geometrically undefined, multi-edged tools. In maximum precision overall systems, internal processing normally represents the more complex tasks. Especially when the basis for system functionality is produced by the internal machining of guides and seats, as is routine in the injection industry. Often with a diameter of < 1 mm. Complex project experience from this "physically limiting" process design qualify BAHMÜLLER for all other internal grinding tasks.

SPECIAL FEATURES OF BAHMÜLLER INTERNAL GRINDING TECHNOLOGY:

  • optional use of hydrostatically or aerostatically mounted internal grinding spindles
  • spindle speed of up to 250,000 rpm
  • smallest bore diameter of up to 0.8 mm
  • galvanically or ceramically bonded CBN and diamond tools grinding tools
  • dressing technology with ceramic, galvanic or metal bonded diamond shaping rollers
  • rotating dressing process optionally on work piece spindle (speeds of up to 6,000 rpm) or - frequency-controlled dressing spindle (speeds of up to 17,000 rpm)
  • use of specifically mounted spindles with internal coolant feedthrough for achieving optimal seating in state-of-the-art gasoline direct injection systems (GDI)
  • grinding mandrels made from carbide and heavy metal (Densimet)
  • adaptive process control across various process parameters (AE sensors, spindle current, etc.)
  • cylinder error monitoring and compensation via closed control circuit
  • roundness and straightness <= 0.1 μm
  • surface qualities Rz <=0.3 μm
  • cylinder shaping =0.1 μm
  • length and diameter tolerances of +/- 1.5 µm through corresponding process controls
